The UAE has launched its first quinoa trials to enhance food security through sustainable agriculture. This initiative is a collaboration between agritech firm Silal, the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture and ADQ that aims to assess quinoa's potential in the region's saline conditions.

Quinoa is a nutritious grain popular in South America and is rich in essential amino acids and can be used in various food products. Early trials have shown promising results for two new quinoa varieties indicating high yields and quality.
With a support fund of Dh100 million ($27.2 million), the project will focus on training local farmers in quinoa cultivation and establishing processing facilities in Abu Dhabi. Silal's CEO Salmeen Al Ameri, emphasized the importance of this innovation for sustainable agriculture and food security.
