Sheikh Mohammed Launches 'Plant the Emirates' Initiative to Boost UAE's Agricultural Growth

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled the “Plant the Emirates” program, aiming to enhance the UAE's agricultural sector and boost food security. The initiative seeks to increase the number of farms, expand organic produce, and create new jobs in agriculture.

Announced during a Cabinet meeting in Al Marmoom, the program aligns with the UAE's vision for sustainable development. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of cultivating a love for agriculture among future generations, stating, “The seeds we plant today will flourish for generations to come.”

The initiative includes the establishment of the National Agriculture Centre, which will support agricultural technologies, foster partnerships, and promote local products. Over the next five years, the center aims to:

  • Increase productive farms by 20%

  • Boost organic farms by 25%

  • Adopt climate-smart solutions on 30% of farms

  • Reduce agricultural waste by 50%

  • Increase local produce use in restaurants and hotels by 25%

The program will engage local communities through national campaigns, events, and competitions, all under a unified identity. It aims to make UAE-grown agricultural products synonymous with quality and sustainability.

This comprehensive approach not only honors the legacy of Sheikh Zayed but also lays the groundwork for a greener, more self-sufficient future in the UAE.
