President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced February 28 as Emirati Day for Education, a new national occasion to honor the significant role education plays in the UAE’s development.

While not a public holiday, this day will be dedicated to celebrating the contributions of educators and their impact on the nation’s future. This date marks a historic moment in 1982 when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father, witnessed the graduation of the first cohort of teachers from UAE University.

This institution established by Sheikh Zayed in 1976 holds a pivotal place in the UAE’s academic landscape as the first and oldest university, shaping generations of scholars and professionals.

President Sheikh Mohamed emphasized that Emirati Day for Education will serve to recognize the invaluable contributions of those in the education sector, reinforcing their central role in fostering a knowledge-driven society and enhancing the UAE's success on the global stage.
