The UAE and the US have taken a significant step towards deepening their economic relationship by signing a new customs cooperation agreement. This agreement was finalized during the official visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to the US and is set to streamline trade and enhance economic collaboration between the two nations.
Signed by Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and Troy A. Miller, Acting Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection, the deal aims to facilitate the exchange of customs expertise and information. This initiative is expected to ease the flow of goods along shared supply lines, reduce customs violations, and expand technical cooperation in customs matters.

Al Shamsi emphasized the importance of the agreement, stating that it would strengthen the UAE’s role as a regional hub for global trade while reinforcing the US as a strategic economic partner. “Bilateral trade between our nations has steadily grown, driven by our strong political and economic ties,” he said. “This agreement will further boost trade exchange, overcome challenges, and enhance national competencies through training and exposure to best customs practices.”
The agreement also highlights the UAE's growing position as a global trading gateway, while also recognizing the US as a historical and strategic partner. Both nations anticipate that this cooperation will not only increase trade volume but also improve efficiency and security in customs operations, benefiting businesses and consumers alike.
This customs cooperation agreement marks another milestone in the UAE-US economic partnership, paving the way for enhanced collaboration, smoother trade, and a stronger relationship between two major global players.
