Dubai Reef, part of the Dubai Can initiative has reached a major milestone by completing the fabrication of its first 1,000 purpose-built reef modules. This project aims to enhance marine biodiversity in Dubai's waters by deploying a total of 20,000 reef modules over three years.
Launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project includes various module sizes designed to create habitats for diverse marine life. The modules will be installed at depths ranging from 15 to 25 meters, supporting species like corals, sea anemones and sponges.

Construction began in August 2024 using sustainable materials and biofuels to ensure durability and environmental safety. Strategic partners including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority are collaborating on this initiative to promote marine sustainability.
As part of the larger Dubai Can sustainability effort, Dubai Reef aims to strengthen the emirate's position as a global leader in marine innovation and environmental protection. The deployment of the first 1,000 modules is set to begin in late November 2024.
